Ivanka Trump on father’s conviction: ‘It’s painful to experience'

Ivanka Trump, former President Trump’s daughter and ex-adviser, weighed in on her father’s legal battles and recent conviction in a new podcast interview.

“On a human level, it’s my father, and I love him very much,” she told the “Lex Fridman Podcast” in an episode released Tuesday. “So, it’s painful to experience. But ultimately, I wish it didn’t have to be this way.”

Fridman said he hopes amidst all the legal turmoil, love wins out.

“It usually does,” Ivanka Trump responded.

The former president is facing four criminal indictments and was convicted of 34 felony counts in his hush money case in May. The Supreme Court ruled in his favor Monday, granting presidents broad immunity for official acts.

The high court’s decision sends the federal case involving Trump’s actions on Jan. 6, 2021, back to a lower court. However the case unfolds, the 6-3 decision by the justices likely delays his trial past Election Day.

The former president’s sentencing in his hush money case was set for next week, but the judge delayed it until September to weigh if the immunity decision changes his guilty verdict.

Ivanka Trump, who served as a senior adviser in her father’s administration, is not joining Trump on the campaign trail this time around.

She said she wants to spend her time raising her young children, adding there is “a lot of darkness” in politics.
