Infra and defence mutual funds dominate returns chart in first half of 2024

Infrastructure and defence based mutual funds have dominated the returns chart in the first half of 2024, an analysis of the return charts showed. There were around 208 sectoral/thematic funds in the said period.

The toppers in the list were from the infrastructure sector, defence sector and PSU sector. HDFC Defence Fund, the topper in the list, gave 55.22% return in the first half of 2024. Bandhan Infrastructure Fund and LIC MF Infra Fund, two infrastructure sector based funds, gave 43.43% and 40.67% returns respectively.



Invesco India PSU Equity Fund gave 38.53% return in the first six months of 2024. The next three funds in the list were from the infrastructure sector. Invesco India Infrastructure Fund, Kotak Infra & Eco Reform Fund and Canara Rob Infrastructure Fund gave 37.31%, 36.66%, and 36.51% returns respectively in the said period.

Tata Infrastructure Fund, Quant Infrastructure Fund, and HSBC Infrastructure Fund delivered 33.92%, 33.62%, and 33.32% returns respectively in the same time period.

SBI PSU Fund offered 30.90% return in the first six months of 2024. Mirae Asset NYSE FANG+ETF FoF, an international fund, gave 28.43% return in the first half of 2024.

HSBC Brazil Fund and Mahindra Manulife Asia Pacific REITs FOF lost the most, around 19.24% and 13.21% in the same time period.

Mirae Asset Global Electric & Autonomous Vehicles ETFs FoF lost around 8.39% in the first six months of 2024. Three international funds from DSP Mutual Fund gave negative returns in the similar period.

Edelweiss ASEAN Equity Off-Shore Fund and Axis US Treasury Dynamic Bond ETF FoF lost 0.16% and 0.08% in the said time frame.

There were around 208 sectoral/thematic schemes in the said period, out of which 156 sectoral/thematic funds gave double-digit returns, 41 schemes gave single-digit returns, and 11 schemes posted negative returns.

We considered all sectoral and thematic funds available in the market in the said period. We considered regular and growth options. We calculated the performance between January 1, 2024 to June 25, 2024.
