Get to sleep in minutes with this game-changing hack.
Numerous things can stop you from getting the perfect night’s sleep. Falling asleep isn’t as easy as it sounds, and if the conditions aren’t right like you’re too hot or too cold, then you can spend hours tossing and turning before you eventually drift off.
One of the most common reasons for staying awake in bed, however, is having too many thoughts racing through your brain. It’s all too common when we lie down at night for all sorts of thoughts to come to us – from thinking about something you did earlier in the day to planning what you’re going to do tomorrow.
Racing thoughts can keep us awake for hours, but one meditation coach has claimed there’s an easy trick we can all start doing that should calm our minds down and help us drift off in a matter of minutes.
Emily Kessler went viral for sharing her “strange and weird” sleep hack, which she insists she uses every night to “distract her mind” – and it’s helped her get to sleep faster than anything else she’s tried.
In her video, Emily admitted her hack “sounds like it makes no sense” but urged people to trust the process and give it a go because it’s worked wonders for her.
She explained: “It’s helped me and literally everybody else I’ve ever told it to. When you are trying to sleep at night, and you’re laying in your bed, what I recommend is taking a few nice deep breaths to calm your body a little bit and then start to visualise a house.”
Emily said it’s important the house you picture is not your own but it is one you know “very well”. She uses her grandmother’s old house, but you could picture a friend’s, partner’s, or another family member’s home.
Next, you need to start imagining yourself slowly working your way through the house, as this is what will distract your mind from random thoughts as you instead focus on the task at hand.
Emily continued: “You basically visualise yourself walking up to the house, noticing all the details about the outside, going up to the door, opening the door, walking inside, seeing the layout, and then slowly going through each room noticing things in as much detail as possible. Make your way through every room and see the art, the furniture, and the layout.
“There is something about this that distracts your thinking busy mind enough to let you fall asleep. I’ve literally never made it upstairs at her house. Try it!”
Commenters on the post praised Emily for sharing her hack, as many said they couldn’t wait to try it out for themselves. Others also shared similar tricks that help them get to sleep.
One person said: “Not me seeing this at my 2am insomnia convinced I won’t fall back to sleep. Putting my phone down now to try this.”
Another added: “A hack that I do is just immediately create a dream and trick my brain into thinking I’ve already fallen asleep, no joke, the dream continues, and I fall asleep.”
