The sculpture was part of a V Energy drink promotion set up in the mall.

The video of the man quickly went viral on local Sydney pages, with many questioning what was going through the man’s head at the time.

“Only in Sydney,” the video was captioned. “Walked past a frozen block of ice in Pitt St Mall, and some idiot got their tongue stuck to the ice.”

“Never a dull day,” another added.

Others suggested perhaps the man was simply trying to cool down after the first of many hot Sydney summer days to come.

The city sweltered through a 28C day on Thursday, with more hot days forecast in the coming week.

The V stand in the mall was handing out free V Refresh beverages on Thursday as part of a new promotion.
