Harris is 'identity politics' product, not statesman: George Will

(NewsNation) — Vice President Kamala Harris is not an experienced politician, and the race to define her is ongoing in both major political parties, NewsNation senior political contributor George Will told “On Balance with Leland Vittert.”

Harris, the now-presumptive Democratic nominee and current vice president, has garnered record support in the days following President Joe Biden’s departure from the 2024 presidential election and her subsequent campaign announcement.

Will thinks she only joined the Biden-Harris ticket because “she has two chromosomes, as a woman, and because of her skin pigmentation.”

Harris, who Will referred to as Biden’s “biggest mistake,” was previously California’s attorney general and the district attorney of San Francisco.

As support for Harris grows in the Democratic Party and Republicans assess her threat level, Will foresees a rush to define her policies and character, which he claims has been absent during her tenure as vice president.

“This is going to be a very, very eager dash to define Harris,” Will said. “And I’m afraid, for her, she’s already defined herself.”

Harris will likely face former President Donald Trump in November, a matchup Will believes will be no different than Biden trailing Trump prior to his exit.

“When dust settles … the polls are going to look the way they did two weeks ago,” he said.
