In a bit that’s sure to antagonize a man who can’t stop telling people how attractive he is, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries skewered Donald Trump as an annoying ex-boyfriend during his speech at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday.
“Donald Trump is like an old boyfriend who you broke up with, but he just won’t go away,” Jeffries quipped, as the crowd erupted in laughter. “He has spent the last four years spinning the block trying to get back into a relationship with the American people. Bro, we broke up with you for a reason.”
“Donald Trump can spin the block all he wants, but there’s no reason for us to ever get back together,” he continued. “Been there, done that. We’re not going back.”
Democrats have spent the convention poking fun at Trump, shirking the now-famous call from former first lady Michelle Obama in 2016 to “go high” when Republicans turn to low blows. Even Obama abandoned that mantra during her DNC speech Tuesday night, slamming Trump as someone who “fail[ed] forward” through “the affirmative action of generational wealth” and knocking him hard on his comments about immigrants coming to steal “Black jobs.”
“Who’s going to tell him the job he’s currently seeking might just be one of those Black jobs?” the former first lady said, to huge applause.
