Hair stylist with one million followers on how she gets the perfect bouncy blowout

A hair stylist with more than one million social media followers has revealed why a straightener is the secret to the perfect bouncy blowout, and the one she swears by every time.

Sarah Emilia, who works in Sydney’s Bondi Junction, has become famous for a special cutting and blow drying technique that she calls “the Matilda” – which has been inspired by Swedish model Matilda Djerf’s fluffy blowout.

When it comes to blow drying, Sarah likes to use the ghd Max Wide Hair Straightener ($355) in order to get the perfect level of bounce.

“This my fake-it blowout hack that I have been using for years,” Sarah said in the now-viral video.

So what do you need to do to replicate it at home?

According to the stylist, you first of all need a ghd Max Wide Styler, which is the “widest iron that ghd have”.

“As you can see, I am placing it horizontally on the hair and I am bringing it down,” Sarah explained.

“I am not tilting the tip of the iron to the floor, which is going to create more of a curl or a wave.

“I am simply trying to mimic what a brush would do in the hair just to get some heat in there before then pinning it up.”

Sarah says she tries to be “strategic” when she is doing this technique, as there may be a few pieces in the hair which you can leave as they “don’t need much bounce”.

“I don’t want too much volume up the top, so I’m leaving those bits,” she said.

“Then, when it’s all done, just rake them out with either your fingers or a brush.

“In this case, I am using a comb. You can use product here or powder here if you like it extra thick.”

This style should last longer than your average blow dry, she added.

Thousands who saw Sarah Emilia’s video were quick to compliment her for her work, and say they couldn’t wait to try it at home.

“I cannot wait to try the signature Sarah blowout look,” one shopper wrote.

“Omg this is stunning. The bounce,” another added.

A third said: “Finally! I’ve been waiting to see this for such a long time – so exited to try it out”.
