Gunshots may have been heard by witnesses in the moments before a car was set alight in Sydney’s northwest.
The car fire on Webb St in North Parramatta was reported about 2.15am on Tuesday.

A body was then found in the driver’s seat of the burnt-out hatchback and a crime scene was established.
The vehicle and remains have been taken for examination, NSW Police Superintendent Barry Vincent said.
A postmortem examination will be conducted to confirm the identity of the person and the cause of death.
The death is being treated as suspicious, Vincent said.
Police have been informed witnesses heard gunshots in the area before the fire, he confirmed.
“There may have been a fuel source” found at the scene of the fire, Vincent said.
The ownership of the vehicle is currently being investigated.
A second car was found burnt out in Sydney’s south overnight, with it “too early” to tell if the incidents are linked.
“I’m aware that there has been another incident in Waterfall,” Vincent said.
“It’s too early to tell whether those matters are linked in any way.”
Skeletal remains were found inside the burnt-out car in Waterfall Flat Carpark in the Royal National Park, about 9km south of Engadine.
A car fire was reported about midnight. The Toyota RAV4 was found alight and extinguished by NSW Rural Fire Service crews.
Skeletal remains were then found inside the vehicle.
A crime scene has now been established by NSW Police and the remains will be sent for forensic examination to determine identification.
