Guelph man arrested for murder

A Guelph man has been arrested for murder after a woman was found dead in her apartment.

Guelph Police said a man went to the police station on Saturday just before 8 a.m. with obvious injuries. After speaking with the man, officers went to an apartment in the Waterloo Avenue and Edinburgh Road South area where they found the woman’s body.

“They are known to each other, certainly. There’s no reason to believe there’s any threat to public safety. It was an isolated incident between two parties that were known to each other,” Guelph Police Media Relations Coordinator Scott Tracey told CTV News Kitchener.

Tracey could not describe the injuries the man suffered due to the nature of the ongoing investigation.

“That’s going to be part of the investigation – what the injuries are and how they were sustained. He was transported to hospital for treatment of those injuries.”

A 50-year-old Guelph man has been charged with second degree murder. He remains in police custody.

Tracey said people living in the area may see police officers over the next few days as the investigation continues.

“There’s a lot of investigation that still needs to happen. Forensics officers, for example, were on scene yesterday. There will still be officers on scene.”
