If you’re curious to know which winter fashion trends are getting the most love in the Vogue offices, I’m here to let you know that the divinely glamorous faux-fur-trim coat has been the topic of many conversations as of late. No matter how much time passes, here at Vogue we can’t seem to resist the allure of a fluffy collar and dramatic sleeve trimmings, especially the ’70s-inspired designs that captured the essence of the decade.
“Ever since my former neighbor gave me her absolutely insane vintage coat from the ’70s, I’ve been in full Penny Lane mode,” Vogue’s fashion writer Hannah Jackson admits. In addition to the treasure trove of vintage styles out there, we’re still infatuated with the playful takes by Danish label Saks Potts. Naturally, the Copenhagen-based brand had all of the fashion girlies in a choke hold back in 2018, with names like Kendall Jenner, Cardi B, Bella Hadid, and Katy Perry on the long list of celebrity wearers. In 2022, Saks Potts made a commitment to no longer use the fur from animals raised purely for their fur, and the label stopped using any mohair from animals treated unfairly. Ever since, brands have been offering faux-fur options of similar coats.

Fast forward to 2024 and we’re still head over heels for the Penny Lane look. And there are more designers than ever sculpting the dramatic silhouettes, from Magda Butrym’s wear-everyday cognac-hued coat to Retrofête’s ready-to-party long shearling creation.
“There’s something to be said about how it immediately glamorizes any outfit—a huge plus for a low-maintenance girl like me,” says Jackson. “Throw it over a sequined dress for a Studio 54 vibe, or wear it over your pajamas to glitz up your morning bodega run. No matter the occasion, this coat declares that you are a woman about town, and a chic one at that!”
