Green Day forced offstage by rogue drone over Comerica Park

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Fans should expect a little bit of chaos during a Green Day concert, but not what they saw Wednesday night.

Multiple outlets report a rogue drone that had flown over Comerica Park forced the security team to interrupt the show, leaving fans stunned.

About 20 minutes into the band’s set, the band was rushed off stage in the middle of a song. The Detroit News reports that there was no announcement to the fans, but after “a few minutes of silence” a message was put up on the video screens reading, “Show pause. Please standby for details.”

The Detroit Police Department told The News that the individual they believe was responsible for the drone was located outside of Comerica Park and detained. Once that person was in custody, the band returned to the stage. The delay reportedly lasted between 10 and 15 minutes.

The band later posted a message to social media saying, “Detroit! Sorry for the delay in the show tonight. Stadium security had us clear the stage while they dealt with a potential safety issue. DPD quickly resolved the situation, and we were able to continue. Thanks for understanding.”

Wednesday night’s show was part of Green Day’s “The Saviors Tour.” Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid and The Linda Lindas also performed.
