A doctor has shared three key symptoms that could help differentiate between the Pirola variant and its predecessors.
New reports have shared that the Omicron spin-off also causes symptoms including rash, eye irritation and diarrhoea, according to the Irish Independent.
Dr Johannes Uys, GP from Broadgate General Practice, explained these signs could help identify you have the strain.
He told Express.co.uk: “Rash, eye irritation and diarrhoea are key signs of the recent Pirola variant.
“These symptoms set Pirola apart from many of its predecessors.”
If you start experiencing these three new symptoms, the GP recommended avoiding contact with vulnerable people, such as pregnant women and those with compromised immune systems.
He added: “You should then do a Covid test, if for no other reason than to rule Covid out.
“If you test positive, you should continue avoiding contact with vulnerable people until the infection has run its course.
“If your symptoms worsen dramatically, you should seek medical help.”
The doctor explained that testing yourself is especially important as these new symptoms are very common and can be found in a host of other illnesses.
He said: “For example, diarrhoea could be a sign of food poisoning or some kind of gastrointestinal issue.
“Meanwhile, a rash can indicate skin irritation from contact with certain chemicals or materials. Eye irritation could be due to a stye.
“This is why it is advised that you take a Covid test – so you can rule Pirola out and start exploring other possible causes if necessary.”
