GMC Hummer EV Left Abandoned On Off-Road Trail After Suspension Failure

GM made huge waves with the debut of the GMC Hummer EV. In addition to big power and weight (up to 1,000 horsepower and a curb weight of nearly 9,000 pounds) it was the return of one of the most capable SUVs ever made. If one recently found abandoned off the side off an Arizona desert trail is any indication though, an owner can easily get over their head off-roading the electric SUV.

TikTok user Allen Skillicorn recently came across a GMC Hummer EV SUV abandoned on Arizona’s Sycamore Creek Trail. Skillicorn was making his way down the trail in his Porsche Cayenne when he made the discovery.

Skillicorn showed the huge SUV just sitting on the trail while mentioning that the tie rods on it must be broken; the passenger side wheel is going straight while the driver’s side wheel is turned right. Skillicorn gets up close to the right wheel and shows that the SUV’s CV joint is torn while mentioning “there is a lot of grease in there.”

It’s not known exactly what led to this kind of damage on the Hummer. Hard to say. A quick check online doesn’t bring up any owner related issues. Independent testing of the Hummer EV off-road does show it to be capable, even with gimmicky features like the CrabWalk.

This also could point to an owner who just didn’t know what the hell they were getting into. The trail the Hummer was broken down on is one part of an 11 mile route that is marked as “moderately challenging”. The Hummer’s driver could have easily gotten in over their head. Whatever the case, it’s going to be a tough time extracting that thing from the trail. We’ll keep an eye out for updates on this story and update accordingly.
