Ward off the winter sniffles with this NHS doctor’s brilliant tip to beat colds quickly.
Despite being a few weeks shy of the start of cold and flu season, a cold can strike at any time of year, and it’s important to be prepared so that you can fight it off as quickly as possible.
One NHS GP has shared a must-try health hack on TikTok that could be your knight in shining armour against the relentless cold.
Doctor Shireen asserts there may be no way to stop a cold dead in its tracks, but it’s certainly possible to lessen its blow and hasten recovery.
She urges immediate action at the first sign of trouble, such as an itchy throat or watery eyes, and recommends a simple remedy of vitamin C and zinc to help prevent symptoms from getting worse.
The GP stated: “I’m an NHS GP, and I’m going to give you guys one small, extremely easy tip that’s going to reduce the duration and severity of any cold you have this winter.
“The second you notice an itchy throat, a runny nose, itchy eyes, anything that might suggest you’ve got a cough or a cold coming, what I want you to do is take two things. Vitamin C and zinc. You can actually get these Berocca-style tablets that you pop into water – just start it.
“You can’t prevent coughs or colds, but research is out there to show that taking zinc and vitamin C reduces the duration and severity. I personally have been doing this for the past couple of years, and I can tell you it really works.”
Vitamin C and zinc are frequently paired up in health store offerings, with retail giants like Holland and Barrett, as well as online marketplaces like Amazon, stocking a wide range of options.
Followers of Doctor Shireen’s informative video expressed gratitude for the health tips shared, revealing their intentions to adopt the regimen when next under the weather.
Some commentators even confirmed the efficacy from their own experience, claiming long-term success with these immune-boosting supplements.
One individual endorsed the routine: “Take two multivitamins every day. Since doing it years and years ago, I hardly get sick, and if I do, it’s mild.” Another said: “I do this and have copious amounts of raw garlic, honey and sleep and I’m convinced this is why I’m rarely ill for more than 2-3 days.”
