George Stephanopoulos Caught On Camera Doubting Biden, Just Days After Interview

ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos was asked by a person on a street in New York on Tuesday if he thought President Joe Biden should quit his 2024 campaign.

“I don’t think he can serve four more years,” replied Stephanopoulos, who sat down with Biden for an interview last week in what was essentially a damage limitation exercise for the president following his disastrous debate performance against presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.

“You don’t think he can serve four more years? Alright. That’s an answer,” the person responded to the journalist.

Stephanopoulos later told Puck News, “Earlier today I responded to a question from a passerby. I shouldn’t have.” Stephanopoulos “expressed his own point of view and not the position” of the network, added a spokesperson for ABC News.

Biden downplayed fears about his mental fitness during the interview with Stephanopoulos, which aired Friday amid rising calls from Democrats for the president to abandon the race.

At one point, Stephanopoulos asked Biden if he disputed “that there have been more lapses, especially in the last several months?”

“Can I run the 100 in 10 flat? No. But I’m still in good shape,” Biden responded.

He later dismissed the notion of being “more frail.”
