Garmin Venu 2 Plus, and Garmin D2 Air X10 smartwatches recalled due to risk of short circuit, owners warned to update software

Owners of two models of Garmin smartwatches are being urged to update their device’s software because of a glitch which can cause the watch to short circuit.

A number of Garmin Venu 2 Plus, and Garmin D2 Air X10 sold between 2021 and 2022 have been affected by a recall.

Product Safety Australia said the watches were at risk of overheating because of an error with the LED.

“The light-emitting diode (LED) of the optical heart rate (OHR) sensor in affected smartwatches may experience a localised short-circuit,” the recall said.

“There is a risk of skin irritation or blistering to the area of skin underneath the OHR sensor from the heat of the smartwatch LED.”

The watches require a software update to correct the defect.

“Consumers should connect/sync their affected Garmin smartwatch with the Garmin Connect mobile app to receive this update,” the ACCC said.
