Four children rescued in national police child exploitation investigation

Four abused children have been rescued — and a West Australian man jailed for more than 24 years — after a national investigation into child exploitation.

Police found one of the child victims in WA, one in New South Wales and two in Victoria.

Australian Federal Police had been tipped off by Interpol, which had received information about child exploitation activities.

The AFP then engaged state authorities, who located and rescued four children through a joint operation.

A 32-year-old WA man has been sentenced to 24 years and six months jail after being found guilty of more than 40 charges.

A NSW woman and a Victorian man have also been charged as a result of the investigation.

The WA Police Child Exploitation Operations charged the 32-year-old WA man with a string of offences.

They were seven counts of sexual penetration of a child under 13; six counts of indecent dealings with a child under 13; 21 counts of indecently recording a child under 13; three counts of possessing child exploitation material; six counts of distributing child exploitation material; and three counts of possessing or copying an indecent or obscene article.

The man’s 24 year prison term included seven years for possessing child exploitation material – the maximum sentence for this offence.

WA Police identified five child victims through its investigation, one of whom was already known to police.

The other four children had to be rescued from their situations.
