The body of 19-year-old Marco Troper was found in his University of California, Berkeley dormitory earlier this week, reports said. Suspected drug overdose could be the reason, according to a family source.
The incident came to light after uthorities responded to a call about an unresponsive student at the Clark Kerr dorms on the UC Berkeley campus.
Despite efforts by the Berkeley Fire Department to save him, Troper was later pronounced dead.
The cause of Troper’s death remains unknown, and campus police say that there’s no evidence of foul play. However, Troper’s grandmother, Esther Wojcicki, has raised concerns about a possible drug overdose.
Esther Wojcicki disclosed to SFGATE that Troper had ingested a drug, though its contents are unknown. The family is awaiting a comprehensive toxicology report, which could take up to 30 days, for more information. In a heartfelt Facebook post, Esther Wojcicki remembered Troper as a “loving” and “math genius” freshman at UC Berkeley. Despite his academic dedication, Troper was also active socially, forming strong connections in his dorm at Stern Hall and joining the Zeta Psi fraternity.
