Quarterback Aaron Rodgers raised eyebrows when he seemed to suggest following the New York Jets’ 26-21 loss to the Seattle Seahawks that dropped Gang Green to 3-9 that he’s not the only person to blame for New York’s offensive struggles.
“There’s 11 guys on the field,” Rodgers said in his postgame media availability. “Sometimes it’s my fault. Definitely multiple times today. And then sometimes the details aren’t there in some other spots too.”
During SNY’s postgame show, former Jets offensive lineman and current NFL analyst Willie Colon ripped Rodgers over what could become some controversial comments.
“That’s who Aaron Rodgers is,” Colon said, as shared by Reice Shipley of Awful Announcing. “That’s who he has always been. He’s just covered that up because of the way he has played. You can be smug and cocky when you are winning MVPs and you’re balling. You can make every play on the field, you can be smug. The problem is his smugness and his play aren’t matching up.”
Rodgers essentially missed all of last season due to the torn Achilles he suffered in September 2023, and he lost nine of his first 12 starts of the ongoing campaign. According to Pro Football Reference, Rodgers began Monday ranked 27th in the NFL with a 48.5 adjusted QBR, 24th with an 87.5 passer rating and 29th with a 62.5% completion percentage for the season. Per ESPN stats, the Jets are 26th in the league with an average of 18.8 points scored per game.
Jets owner Woody Johnson firing head coach Robert Saleh when the club was 2-3 didn’t result in Rodgers turning the clock back to his best days with the Green Bay Packers. Johnson has since also parted ways with general manager Joe Douglas, and it was reported on Sunday that the Jets want “a fresh start at general manager, head coach and quarterback” next year.
“If you are a Jets fan,” Colon added, “burn the whole d— thing up. Burn the whole building up. Nothing makes sense. …Everything is worse than it was before.”
Rodgers completed 21-of-39 passes for 185 yards with two touchdowns and an interception that was returned for a score against Seattle. Multiple reporters mentioned after that game that it could be Rodgers’ last as New York’s full-time QB1 if backup Tyrod Taylor remains healthy enough to play through Week 18.
