The former Jeopardy! contestant was arrested last week at an elite Brooklyn private school, where he taught math since 2020, as part of an investigation into sexualized images being distributed on social media, according to the New York Post.

Nguyen — also a convicted thief who served time in Rikers for stealing $300,000 from an elderly couple — was arrested at St. Ann’s School in Brooklyn Heights last Thursday in front of students.

Sources told the Post that Nguyen wasn’t charged but is being investigated by the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office. He was released Saturday.

“We are awaiting a decision from the Brooklyn DAs office regarding charges against Mr Nguyen,” his lawyer, Frank Rothman, told the Post in an email.

“We are expecting some movement in the near future.”

A Saint Ann’s spokeswoman told the Daily Beast, which first reported on the story, that upon “his arrest on Thursday he was immediately placed on leave by the school, and he remains on leave.”

On the day of the arrest, Kenyatte Reid, head of the school, told parents Nguyen, a middle-and high-school math teacher, had been arrested in connection with an investigation that “dates back to January 2024.”

The Daily Beast reported that days later Reid told parents in a follow-up email that Nguyen was barred from contacting anyone in the school community or from visiting the school.

“This incident is very disturbing to all of us,” Reid wrote. “We pride ourselves on our amazing faculty and a learning environment rooted in trust.”

Nguyen was released in 2019 from Rikers Island after he stole more than $300,000 from a couple while acting as their health aide.

The Daily Beast reported a St. Ann’s school spokesman as saying there had been a comprehensive background check that included criminal records during the hiring process, and “a nonviolent criminal record may not preclude employment.”
