A former AFL player has been caught driving while drunk, with more than eight times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
Ex-Fremantle Docker and GWS Giants forward, Cam McCarthy, was caught by police near the town of Harvey in Western Australia’s southwest.

He recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.414, more than eight times over the legal limit.
According to The West Australian, McCarthy was absent for the hearing at the local Magistrate’s Court on July 10.
He has lost his licence for 10 months, was fined $2500, and had to pay police $264.
McCarthy, 28, joined Fremantle under controversial circumstances for the start of the 2017 season.
A former high draft pick, he wanted to leave GWS at the end of the 2015 season, but the Giants wanted to keep the forward, who had been one of the club’s leading goalkickers that year.
He was then granted indefinite leave in 2016 to deal with “personal issues” and did not play a game that season before joining the Dockers for the start of 2017.
But more drama came in 2020, and after just one game to his name that year, McCarthy quit Fremantle half way through the season.
It was reported at the time that Fremantle was not prepared to offer McCarthy a new contract at season’s end, so the player walked.
Fremantle football boss Peter Bell said the decision was a mutual agreement.
“On that basis, Cam and his management discussed the situation with his family, and subsequently informed the club that he would like to seek an early release from his contract, which was mutually agreed to by all parties,” Bell said at the time.
McCarthy then played for South Fremantle in the WAFL but quit that club as well after a poor showing in the 2020 season-opener.
