Last night, a stellar group came out to support Roger Federer for the launch of his first sunglasses collection with Oliver Peoples. The tennis star debuted the first pieces from the collection on the red carpet at Sunday’s Academy Awards, but a proper celebration was in full swing on Tuesday night to officially kick off the collaboration. Still swathed in post-awards-season rizz, the Sunset Tower’s Tower Bar hosted a fête for 80 fashionable guests.
Roger and Mirka Federer, Oliver Peoples’ CEO Rocco Basilico, Jim Moore, Sharon Stone, Trevor Noah, Jay Ellis, Edgar Ramirez, Gavin Rossdale, Nick Robinson, Andrew Mukamal, Lachlan Bailey (who was shooting the collection’s campaign the following day), Warren Alfie Baker, Tylynn Nguyen, Alex Israel, Darren Barnet, Alessandra Ambrosio, Elsa Hosk, Maria Sharapova, Lindsey Vonn, Barbara Palvin, Sara Foster, Petra Flannery, Derek Blasberg—and many more—were all in attendance as the restaurant was fully taken over to host the event. Bathed in an abundance of candlelight, the space featured an elongated main table with Federer and his wife, Mirka, at the center, while a collection of smaller, more intimate tables allowed guests to socialize and dine on steak frites and branzino. It was the perfect locale to celebrate the brand, as it was first launched on Sunset Boulevard just a block away, nearly 40 years ago.
After the cocktail hour, Sonia Ammar serenaded guests before Oliver Peoples’ CEO Rocco Basilico introduced Federer, who recalled his first trip to Los Angeles nearly 20 years ago. “I stayed at the Beverly Hills Hotel and then walked down to Rodeo Drive… a man there, who didn’t recognize me, said that I could be an actor… I [wasn’t sure] about that, but my face is now on a billboard on Sunset Boulevard,” he joked.
Indeed, Federer’s presence consumed the room, as it took three announcements for guests to take their seats because everyone wanted to chat with the tennis star rather than sit for dinner.
Nearly a year in the making (it was first announced at 2023’s Met Gala), the line is available in stores and online today and consists of two shielded styles designed specifically by Federer for sport, as well as four styles for everyday activities—whether those should take you in front of the sun or in front of the limelight.
