Five-bedroom Coober Pedy property for sale for $50,000

A five-bedroom house in South Australia’s outback is being advertised for just $50,000.

The Coober Pedy home on Big Johns Rd includes air-conditioning, built in wardrobes and is located near the town’s main street.

Real estate agency, Andrews Property Regional SA, said the previous tenant was paying $180 per week to stay in the home.

The home is situated on a 1000sqm freehold title block that has a smaller two-bedroom building with a toilet, previously used as a hairdressing salon.

“This home provides the next owner an opportunity to add their character, modifications and upgrades to one’s desired comfort level,” the advertisement said.

But the house also requires major repairs.

“The flooring is dated, stained, and worn through to the concrete in sections. The bathroom is from original build and is in need of a complete new re-build,” the advertisement said.

“This home needs upgrades in terms of wet areas, climate control, plumbing and electrical plus flooring.”

Located in the centre of South Australia, Coober Pedy is about a nine-hour drive from the capital city of Adelaide, and has a population of about 1500 people.

It is known as the “opal capital of the world” for its opal mining.

Last year, the local council began auctioning a number of vacant homes before of outstanding council rates.

Andrews Property director Warren Andrews said a number of investors had expressed interest in purchasing the homes to rent and live in.
