Hugh Grant, known for his charming roles in romantic comedies, is set to venture into the horror genre with a new film titled Heretic.

The spine-chilling thriller is slated for release this Halloween on October 31, promising audiences a frightful experience on the spookiest night of the year.

Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the creative minds behind A Quiet Place, have helmed the project, marking Hugh’s debut in the horror genre.

In the film, Hugh portrays the character Mr Reed, alongside Sophie Thatcher as Sister Barnes, Chloe East as Sister Paxton, Topher Grace as Elder Kennedy and Elle Young as Prophet.

The narrative revolves around two missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who endeavour to convert a Scottish man, only to find their mission fraught with perilous consequences, reports the Mirror.

Heretic premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8 and has since garnered high praise from critics.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film boasts a positive rating from 93% of 56 critics, with an average score of 7.5 out of 10.

The film’s trailer features scenes of Sister Barnes and Sister Paxton proselytising on the streets, before being invited into the home of Mr Reed.

The trailer has been meticulously crafted to avoid spoilers whilst still delivering some truly spine-tingling sequences.

Eager enthusiasts have taken to the YouTube comments section in droves to express their excitement over the tantalising teaser.

One thrilled fan remarked: “Not giving away the entire plot or relying on a barrage of jump scares, simply introducing the setting and building the atmosphere. Yeah, that was a well-made trailer.”

Another individual expressed their delight, saying: “I’ve never been so happy for an actor to outlive their romcom years. Hugh Grant is a powerhouse and he finally gets to show off his range.”

Heretic releases in cinemas this Halloween, on October 31.
