Emergency services say the significant grass and bushfire is being driven by strong westerly winds.

“Embers will be blown long distances ahead of the main fire front starting spot fires, these may impact your home earlier than the main fire front,” NSWRFS said.

More than 80 firefighters using 20 fire trucks and water bombing aircraft are working to extinguish the fire.

“Firefighters are working to contain the fire and prevent it spreading to nearby properties,” Fire and Rescue NSW Inspector Steve Brown said.

“Residents are being urged to follow the advice of onsite emergency crews and to check the Hazards Near Me (NSW) app and the RFS website for the latest advice for the area.”

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use an alternative route.

Camden Valley Way and Bringelly Rd have been closed in both directions between Corfield Rd at Prestons and Cowpasture Rd at Leppington.

Motorists already in the area are urged to drive to conditions, as smoke may affect visibility.

Trains are not running between Glenfield and Leppington on the T2 Inner West and Leppington Line.

Replacement buses are being organised but are not yet on site.

Passengers are advised to delay their trip or make other arrangements.
