Elliot Yeo offered multimillion-dollar deal from Adelaide as multiple rivals circle West Coast midfielder

Elliot Yeo is facing the toughest decision of his AFL career after receiving multiple significant three-year offers from rival clubs, with one deal blowing West Coast out of the water.

Yeo, who turns 31 in October, is an unrestricted free agent and has only received a conditional two-year proposal from the Eagles.

The 2018 premiership player has struggled with his fitness in recent years, playing just 37 games between 2020 and 2023.

But he began to turn things around this season prior to a recent groin injury.

A chance to return this weekend against Adelaide, Yeo’s form for the rest of the year will shine a spotlight on his contract talks.

7NEWS Perth’s Ryan Daniels says it is “a bit unusual” that Yeo is still unsigned, prompting him to think “maybe something’s up”.

Indeed the Crows are at “the front of the queue” in the race to tempt Yeo into leaving with an offer worth around $2.7 million.

“They need a big-bodied, experienced midfielder. They were into Elliot Yeo last year, now they’re really into Elliot Yeo,” he said on Triple M.

“My understanding is the offer would have a front-ended year of around $1.3 million … maybe even slightly higher.

“There’s an offer from West Coast, but significantly less money — with a lot of game/award triggers — and only two years.

“Lot to weight up for Yeo. Still a good chance he remains at Eagles beyond 2024, but no certainty.”

West Coast’s “very below market (value) offer” was impacted by the club’s concerns about Yeo’s injury history after several years on around $800,000.

And if the extension proposal has moved at all since the start of the season, Daniels believes it was actually lowered from its initial point.

“I don’t think that helped the situation,” he said.

“His outstanding form in 2024 has changed the situation — with multiple suitors emerging.

“Loyalty a significant factor, but could end up being $1m difference over course of deal.”

Yeo has played exactly 200 AFL games since debuting for Brisbane in 2012.

He quit the Lions as one of the ‘go-home five’ but will now weigh up whether to leave his hometown Perth to extend his career or at least boost his bank balance before retiring.

His personal motivations and just when he sees West Coast contending for finals will sway the decision.

The Eagles are in the midst of a rebuild but Sunday night’s win over Melbourne, led by an outstanding Harley Reid performance, was another strong sign that they could be on the up sooner than expected.

Oscar Allen is a month away from returning from a knee injury and could receive some significant help next year in the form of Western Bulldogs restricted free agent Tim English.
