Duchess Sophie has been wearing these £60 espadrilles on repeat

The Duchess of Edinburgh ditched her formal dresses and heels for a casual outing in Guernsey to celebrate the Association of Sailing Training Organisation’s Small Ships Race to Poole.

Sophie, 59, put on a casual display in sporty attire, including a light blue polo shirt, a pair of cargo shorts and a Paris Olympics cap. For footwear, she ditched her go-to designer espadrille wedges from Penelope Chilvers to Toms’ summer espadrilles.

It seems the Toms Alpargata Rope 2.0 in white are a hit with the royal as she has been spotted wearing them on several occasions. She also owns the platform versions, which she matched with a white shirt dress during her visit to the UK Embassy in France.

The slip-on pair, retailed for £60, are made with at least 50% recycled cotton upper, as well as a removable insole that claims to “enhance comfort and breathability“.

With 18 colours, patterns and materials to choose, Sophie opted for the white pair while other styles are currently in the summer sale with up to 15% off.

And the five-star reviews explain why the royal loves it so much, with one saying: “Thought they were going to be mega tight but surprisingly just right a little snug but will go! Compared to my old ones these are a dream!”

Another shared: “I love them, they are so cute and comfortable.” But one took a star off and explained: “I need effort to put in, but once the foot is in if feels comfortable. Nice design, like it.”

Some said they had to return the shoes because they are “too hard to break in” and the material was “too stiff”.

Penelope Chilver is running a summer sale and reducing prices on some classic styles including the Low Mary Jane Dali Espadrille, which has been reduced to £64, and the navy Nonno Palm Tree Espadrille, down from £119 to £60.

For a more budget-friendly option, New Look’s white low wedge espadrille is marked down from £27.99 to £19 and shoppers love that the heel is “not too high”.

A second said the shoes are comfortable to walk in for hours, adding: “Not too high and can be worn either dressed up or casual with jeans. An ideal purchase for the summer.”
