Amid reports of a breakup, Donald Trump Jr. congratulated Kimberly Guilfoyle on her potential new job in Greece and did not address the speculation.
“I am so proud of Kimberly. She loves America and she always has wanted to serve the country as an Ambassador. She will be an amazing leader for America First,” he wrote on social media several hours after his father, Donald Trump, named Guilfoyle as his nominee for ambassador to Greece on Tuesday.
The president-elect, in a Truth Social post announcing Guilfoyle’s nomination, called her a “close friend and ally” and touted her “extensive experience and leadership in law, media, and politics, along with her sharp intellect.”
Guilfoyle previously worked as a prosecutor in California and then as a host at Fox News. She has since worked as a campaign surrogate and fundraiser for Trump, and has not held any foreign policy or diplomacy roles.
She got engaged to his son in 2020, but questions swirled about the relationship on Tuesday when tabloids reported that Trump Jr. was dating Florida socialite Bettina Anderson. The Daily Mail published photos appearing to show the two holding hands.
Neither Trump Jr. nor Guilfoyle have publicly addressed the breakup speculation. Sources told People in September that the two had been spending a lot of time apart and that the younger Trump had been quietly seeing Anderson.
The ambassador appointment requires Senate confirmation. Guilfoyle said in her own statement Tuesday she was honored to accept the nomination.
“As ambassador, I look forward to delivering on the Trump agenda, supporting our Greek allies, and ushering in a new era of peace and prosperity,” she wrote.
