Donald Glover cancels his Childish Gambino shows in Australia and New Zealand amid health woes

Childish Gambino has cancelled his world tour shows in Australia and New Zealand as his health battles continue.

The musician, actor, comedian and filmmaker — who goes by Donald Glover outside of his musical projects — has already cancelled shows worldwide due to surgery.

“Unfortunately, my path to recovery is taking longer than expect,” he told ticket holders in a statement on Friday.

“The upcoming concerts in Australia and New Zealand are cancelled. One of the last things I’d ever want to do is disappoint my fans.

“I really appreciate the support you have shown and know that I will do what I can to give u an exceptional experience when the time is right. Thank you.”

Ticketek will automatically refund ticket holders who purchased their tickets through the official avenue, it said.

The latest cancellations come after the multi-hyphenate’s hospitalisation following a show in New Orleans.

“After being assessed, it became clear I would not perform that night, and after more tests, I could not perform the rest of the US tour in the time asked,” he wrote on X at the time.

“As of now, I have surgery scheduled and need time out to heal. “

The Grammy Award-winning singer called the decision to cancel the tour dates in North America, the UK and Europe “difficult”.

But, he wrote, “My path to recovery is something I need to confront seriously”.

Glover, who helped create and starred in a Mr. & Mrs. Smith series reboot for Amazon Prime, had previously said that his 2018 tour would be “the last Childish Gambino tour ever”.

In May, Glover released the album Atavista, a reworked version of his 2020 project 3.15.20. He then announced the tour, which would begin in August, called The New World Tour. Bando Stone & the New World, his final Childish Gambino album, was released in July.

Glover has several other projects in the works, including Mufasa: The Lion King and Community: The Movie.
