Diamonds trailblazer Donnell Wallam has been let go by the Queensland Firebirds after an emotional end to the season.
The 30-year-old goalscoring sensation debuted for the Super Netball side in 2022 and made an instant impact, quickly earning an international debut with Australia.
But her time with the Brisbane-based club has come to an end after the Firebirds, smarting after finishing seventh on the ladder, declined to offer her a new contract for 2025.

Wallam scored 556 goals, trailing only Jamaican star Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard across the entire league, and finished fifth for super shots.
“There is no doubt Donnell is a quality player and her Diamonds selection for 2024 supports that,” Netball Queensland chief executive Kate Davies said.
“This is simply a recruitment decision based on game style and strategy into the future and I know Donnell will continue to shine wherever her future lies.”
Wallam has not commented on the decision but shared a post on Thursday about trusting yourself.
“You don’t know what will happen next month, next year, or in the future. It’s hard, but try not to worry. Worry doesn’t help you; it only holds you back,” it read.
“Instead, trust in yourself that you will get through any challenges, any hard times. Just as you have so far.”
Wallam was supported by the Firebirds, Diamonds and Netball Australia earlier this month after she was subjected to “disgusting racial abuse” in an anonymous letter.
The note rehashed Gina Rinehart’s decision to pull $15 million in sponsorship from Netball Australia in 2022, blaming Wallam.
“As if the hate online wasn’t enough, Mary thought she’d send me a letter,” Wallam wrote.
“I’m beyond disgusted and hurt but I will never stop advocating for my people. Blak, Loud and Proud. ALWAYS.”
Wallam was brought to tears during a moving Welcome to Country before the Firebirds’ next match.
The club again paid tribute to her impact off the court in its statement announcing her departure.
“As well as her impact on the court, and together with a commitment from all of the Queensland Firebirds athletes, Wallam has played a key role in integrating First Nations culture and rituals into the everyday practices of the Firebirds club culture, which will endure,” the Firebirds wrote.
Wallam missed the final cut for the Diamonds’ 2023 World Cup squad but returned to the fold for the Nations Cup success earlier this year.
She was dropped by the Firebirds on Friday alongside Remi Kamo.
“Remi has grown in her second year of Super Netball and been impactful on the court,” Davies said.
“The Firebirds are seeking to reset their defensive strategy over the coming seasons and this decision is a part of that reset.”
Kim Ravaillion has retired after a championship-winning career with the Firebirds and Diamonds.
