There’s good news and bad news for fans of Destiny 2, as Bungie prepares for the latest game update. The bad news is that Destiny 2 will be taken offline for upwards of eight hours for server maintenance on September 3. The Destiny 2 server downtime will begin at 2pm BST UK time on PS5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. (That’s 6am PDT for fans living in the US.) Destiny 2 is scheduled to remain offline until 10pm BST UK time (2pm PDT), which means no online multiplayer for around eight hours. There is a chance the server maintenance will conclude early, of course, so keep checking back for the latest information and updates.
Of course, it’s not all bad news, because the new update will coincide with the launch of a big new update.
While patch notes will be revealed in full later today (September 3), Bungie has given fans an idea about what to expect.
Indeed, the new update will introduce the Heavy Sword event, which will last for the next week.
“Swords are cool,” reads a Bungie post. “They make you feel like a knight, put you in third person for more precise jumping during puzzles, can be used for some crazy almost illegal feats, and they do great damage to bosses.
“So why not honour them with a week-long event? Well, that’s what we are about to do.”
As part of the event, all Swords in the Heavy Ammo slot will regenerate ammo for the coming week.
Bungie explains more: “We want you to have some extra fun while wielding a blade, but not so much that it trivialises raids or competitive game modes.
“So, your Swords will have effectively infinite Heavy ammo in Seasonal content, Strikes, Nightfalls, Gambit, the Relic game mode in the Crucible, and Legend and Master Lost Sectors.”
The event will launch with four seasonal challenges, which focus on getting kills with Swords in the aforementioned modes and activities. It’s the perfect chance for users to gain bonus XP.
Full patch notes will be revealed later today and will be added to this article.
