Dakota Johnson Is Making the Sheer Trend Work for Fall

Dakota Johnson is all in on transitional dressing. As summer fades into fall, we’ve officially entered that brief, blissful window where we can reasonably wear skirts with sweaters and dresses with jackets. It’s a welcome reminder that we don’t have to immediately retire our summer clothes as soon as we feel the first chill in the air.

With the sheer trend dominating runways and red carpets alike, one could only wonder if diaphanous clothing will disappear once fall comes around. But today at the Gucci spring 2025 show in Milan, Johnson modeled a look that promises to keep everyone’s see-through pieces working through winter.

Johnson chose a look from Sabato De Sarno’s resort 2025 offering: an empire waist dress with a white bodice top and a sheer skirt covered in delicate daisy appliqués, worn over white high-waisted briefs. She juxtaposed the dainty dress with an oversized black croc-embossed leather blazer draped over her shoulders.

Her accessories also helped the jacket give her sweet floral number some edge. Leaning into the black leather, she carried a small black patent Jackie bag with a chain strap and wore black pointy-toe slingback stilettos with chain detailing. So if you’re hesitant to phase out your sheer numbers just yet, take a page from Dakota Johnson’s book: break out your leather jacket and give your summer weather pieces some fall edge.
