D.L. Hughley pulled no punches when commenting on former Trump White House aide Sebastian Gorka’s racist comment about Vice President Kamala Harris, saying it was the product of “mediocre white men.”
Gorka earlier this week described Harris — the first female, Black and Asian American vice president — as a “DEI hire” and “colored,” echoing racist right-wing spin on efforts to boost diversity, equity and inclusion which have seen “DEI hire” essentially become a racist codeword.
Hughley was asked for his response on Gorka’s comment by CNN’s Laura Coates. He didn’t hold back.
The actor and comedian launched into a staunch defense of Harris, highlighting her achievements, “professionalism” and “ability to run the country” as making her suitably qualified to run the country should President Joe Biden fail to complete a potential second term.
“America has been more damaged by GCI than DEI,” he added. “The greedy, corrupt, incompetent white men have caused more damage to the United States of America than diversity, equity, inclusion.”
Later he added, “So what men do, what mediocre white men do, is blame things. They have no excuse for their failures. The reason that Donald Trump did not get a second term is because he so mishandled COVID that he was fired by the American people.”
