Customers angered as Sanitarium Health Food Company halts production of popular peanut butter range

An iconic Australian food company will halt production on its peanut butter range due to “declining customer demand”, much to the disappointment of devoted fans.

Sanitarium Health Food Company, the manufacturers of Weet-Bix, said the decision was made earlier this year “after careful consideration and analysis”.

“Our people have proudly produced every jar made and we thank all our loyal consumers over the last 100 years for loving our quality range of peanut butters,” a spokesperson from the company told 7NEWS.com.au

“Sanitarium understands that this may be sad news to some consumers, and we sincerely apologise for any disappointment caused.”

Production ended in late July.

There had been whispers on social media around this time about the disappearance of the much loved products from supermarket shelves.

“Seeking any extra light on the disappearance of all forms of Sanitarium peanut butter from usual outlets,” one person asked on Reddit in July.

However anger and disappointment from customers on social media has popped up recently as the news began to surface more broadly.

“RIP Sanitarium Crunchy Peanut Butter,” one person said on Facebook.

“This has been my favourite peanut butter for decades.”

Another said the decision to halt production was “ridiculous”.

“Unbelievable you’d stop producing peanut butter,” they wrote.
