Corey Heim staves off rain, late restarts to win at Pocono

It’s Corey Heim’s world, and the rest of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series field is just living in it.

The 22-year-old driver from Marietta, Ga., won his fifth race of the 2024 season on Friday at Pocono, avenging his heartbreaking 2023 defeat at the “Tricky Triangle.”

After a rain delay forced the final six laps to be run on the edge of darkness, Heim pulled away from the field on the race’s final restart, with Grant Enfinger and Christian Eckes hopelessly following behind.

Heim collected the maximum 60 points on the day, having also won Stage One and Two. The Stage One win wasn’t easy as Heim had to go toe-to-toe with Eckes in order to earn the lead.

From there, however, it was smooth sailing for Heim, who continues to prove why he’s one of the hottest prospects in NASCAR.

Enfinger held off Eckes for second, with Taylor Gray and Ross Chastain rounding out the top five. Chase Purdy and Stewart Friesen finished sixth and seventh, respectively, with Matt Crafton, Dean Thompson and Rajah Caruth filling out the top 10.

Other notable finishers from Friday’s race included Nick Sanchez in 13th, Tyler Ankrum in 14th, Daniel Dye in 16th, Ben Rhodes in 18th and Ty Majeski in 31st.

A mechanical issue for Spencer Boyd and the No. 76 team relegated the Freedom Racing entry to a last-place finish.

With just two races (Indianapolis and Richmond) remaining in the regular season, Daniel Dye currently holds the final playoff spot in the 10-driver postseason. Dye sits one point above Tanner Gray.

The Truck Series returns to action next Friday at the Indianapolis Raceway Park. The TSport 200 will go green shortly after 8:30 p.m. ET, with coverage on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
