Conor McGregor hopes to fight twice in 2025

MMA star Conor McGregor is hoping to fight twice in 2025 after his bout earlier this year was called off.

McGregor has previously disclosed that he has two fights left on his UFC contract. On Saturday, DAZN boxing reporter Ariel Helwani asked McGregor if he will fulfill that contract in 2025.

“I must, I must, I must,” the 36-year-old McGregor said. “It’s the promised lands, so we’ll see.”

Helwani then asked McGregor what he would do once his UFC contract is complete.

“I don’t even know, I don’t think no one in the space knows,” McGregor said. “I’m the highest generating fighter on planet Earth right… and what happens afterwards as I’m a free agent, I’m not so sure.”

McGregor hasn’t entered the ring since he lost twice to Dustin Poirier in 2021, breaking his leg in the second fight. McGregor was scheduled to face Michael Chandler in a welterweight bout at UFC 303 in June, but the fight was called off when McGregor broke a toe in training.

Chandler will now face Charles Oliveira at UFC 309 in November but McGregor still awaits a matchup.

“My job is to just go to the gym, be in the gym, be in shape and one thing is for sure, whenever it is and wherever it is I will be 100 per cent ready,” McGregor said, later adding “I’d like it to be Chandler, I’d like to get that squared away. I wish him well against Oliveira but let’s see how it goes.”
