Collingwood make shattering call on Taylor Adams for AFL grand final

Collingwood have ruled Taylor Adams out of Saturday’s AFL grand final against Brisbane.

The Magpies vice-captain suffered a hamstring injury ahead of the preliminary final, but had been pushing to prove his fitness for the premiership decider.

However, after training for just 30 minutes on Tuesday before leaving the track, the club made the heartbreaking call to rule out the 30-year-old midfielder.

“Unfortunate news for Taylor Adams who experienced hamstring awareness during training today which will see him miss the grand final,” Pies general manager of football Graham Wright said.

“Taylor is an ultimate professional and a true leader both on and off the field and we will wrap our arms around him and continue to support him this week.

“Taylor was incredibly eager to be out there with his teammates and left no stone unturned in his rehabilitation and recovery and we all share in his disappointment.”

Adams isn’t the only hard luck story of grand final week with teammate Dan McStay also missing after suffering a knee injury in last week’s win over the GWS Giants.

It means the Magpies will make at least one change to their team with Billy Frampton looming as McStay’s likely replacement.

Frampton played 15 games this season in his first year since crossing from Adelaide, filling gaps all around the ground, before missing out on selection in the Pies’ two finals to date.

The 26-year-old wore a black training top signifying he was in the A team on Tuesday.

“He looks now in the box seat to replace the injured Dan McStay,” 7NEWS Melbourne reporter Andrew McCormack said.

“What a story that would be, timing is everything in September as he looks to play in a grand final.”

Collingwood captain Darcy Moore and Jeremy Howe are managing ankle and calf injuries respectively but are both expected to play.

Perhaps the only other debate surrounds whether Jack Ginnivan remains the substitute.
