Colin Jost’s job as NBC’s Olympics surfing correspondent in Tahiti was cut short as the Weekend Update anchor recovers from a week of injuries, Deadline reported on Monday.

Soon after landing on the French Polynesian island on July 26, things went south for Jost when he cut his foot on coral reefs.
He shared a photo of his bloodied foot on Instagram with the caption: “This might ruin my WikiFeet score but I just arrived in Tahiti for the surfing Olympics and the reef was excited to greet me.”

He later shared an update on Instagram with an image of his bandaged foot and wrote: “You know it’s going great when you’ve been to the Olympic medical tent more than any of the athletes.”

Shortly after his injury, he got a staph infection and then developed an ear infection.
He jokingly provided an update of his medical issues during a chat with NBC’s Mike Tirico, telling the veteran broadcaster, “I’m not on three different medications – four if you include Pina Coladas. My new goal is to have as many infections as there are Olympic Events.”

The surfing semifinals and finals were delayed until Monday due to small surf, but Jost had already left Tahiti by then, Deadline reported.
He was replaced with Luke Bradnam, a surfer and weatherman from Channel Nine in Australia who was already in Tahiti.
Jost gave another update on his health on Tuesday, posting a video on Instagram with the caption: “Rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated. Semis and finals of Olympic surfing happening right now in Tahiti.”
