The video shows the customer – who uses the handle @DJCheckers – using the store’s basket holder, which has wheels and a long handle, to push the basket around the store.
The move meant the shopper didn’t have to carry the basket and could instead wheel it through the aisles.
At the cashier, the Coles worker pointed out that the basket holder wasn’t meant to be used this way.
“Just for future references, that’s not a basket,” the Coles worker said.
“It’s just a basket holder.” Pointing at a pile of baskets, she added: “They’re the baskets.”
In the caption on his video, the shopper wrote: “Never thought the day would come.”
Some social media users said they’d noticed mixed reactions from Coles staff members when shoppers pull the same stunt.
“Always gave the staff a good laugh while working in the supermarket,” one said. “We would just let them go we knew it’d come back eventually.”
Another wrote: “They get so annoyed about it too.”
A third said: “I’m gonna start doing this just to p*** them off.”
One more wrote: “The amount of times I’ve seen people walking around with the basket holder putting their shopping in it.”
Others noted that it was a “killer idea”.
“Guess what I’m doing in the future?” one said.
