Clint Eastwood’s secret to long-lasting health

Beloved American actor Clint Eastwood has caused a stir by making a rare public appearance ahead of his birthday next month. The 93-year-old icon was in good spirits as he joined conservationist Jane Goodall before her seminar in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, on March 24.

Pictures show the Hollywood star sitting front-and-centre for Jane’s chat after joining her for a backstage reception along with a slew of other VIPs.

The duo reportedly had a vibrant chat before the event last month, where the Western star was accompanied by his assistant.

It was the first sighting of Eastwood in five months as he was last spotted working behind the cameras on set in November.

He has been directing and producing Juror No 2, a courtroom drama starring Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collete, which started filming last June.

This is all the more impressive given the fact the Dirty Harry star is not far from reaching 100 years of age.

But what is the secret to his longevity?

Previously speaking about ageing and how to cope, Eastwood said that he was advised to “never let the old man in,” something he vowed he would never do following the shock loss of his father who died following a heart attack at the age of 64.

Opening up about his own health choices and diet to Muscle and Fitness, he went on to say: “I’ve never carried much body fat, but I’ve always been pretty good about watching my diet.”

He gave critical advice to others who may be struggling with their health. Eastwood said: “Stay away from carbohydrates, especially rich desserts.

“Keep a scale in your bathroom. Get proper rest. Try to be optimistic.

“Eat fruits and raw vegetables. Take vitamins. Skip beverages loaded with sugars. Avoid alcohol in excess.”

Eastwood’s son Scott revealed how dedicated his elderly father is to his diet and exercise.

In a 2017 interview with Men’s Health he discussed what is known as the “Eastwood Code”.

“My dad is a machine about food and exercise,” Scott said. “He showed me how to lift when I was 14 or 15 — the bench press and other basics.

“He made it clear it was more important to do the moves correctly than to put on more plates.”

But in terms of exercise, Eastwood has accepted that his body cannot keep up with the same workouts he used in his youth.

Today he admits to not doing anything “too strenuous”.

“Clint still golfs…. he likes to take long walks,” a source told Closer. “He looks forward to a good meal, reading, getting scripts, golf. He’s very comfortable with his daily routine.”

Eastwood has also utilised meditation as a way to keep his mind sharp for more than 40 years.

The technique, known as transcendental meditation, is a 20 minute practice, usually carried out twice a day that enables the mind and body to access a special quality of rest.
