Claudia Schiffer’s Cotswolds Home Is Filled With Ceramics, Chocolate, and Lots of Chanel

“Everything has to do with something, it’s not just randomly put together,” Claudia Schiffer says of the items in her Cotswolds home, which she shares with her husband Matthew Vaughn, three children, a German Shepherd named Rollo, and a cat named Chip. Indeed, in Vogue’s latest video for “Objects of Affection”—which highlights the favorite pieces belonging to the world’s top creatives—she has a story for everything. There’s her collection of Chanel archive bags, many of which are from the 1990s and were given to her by Karl Lagerfeld himself. They hold a deep meaning for the supermodel: “Karl Lagerfeld was sort of my magic dust. I was a very shy girl and he transformed me from this shy girl into a supermodel,” she says of the late fashion designer.

Schiffer is also an avid art collector. However, she prefers to do all the sourcing herself rather than through an advisor. “I go to an art exhibition, or an art fair, and I see something, I immediately feel a connection to it. I can’t stop thinking about it and you know, if I can afford it, then I would buy it,” she says. One of her favorites? A painting by Ed Ruscha. “It reminds me of the time when I first met my husband in Los Angeles. We had met Ed Ruscha ourselves there and we went to his studio and looked at the way he painted. And so that’s sort of a connection to me now,” she says.

She says the most important room of her house is the kitchen, where her family always gathers. Self-admittedly, Schiffer is not much of a cook, but she loves tableware and decor—especially a beautiful butterfly vase by Portuguese company Bordallo Pinheiro. And that isn’t the only place you’ll find the motif. In another butterfly jar, she secretly stashes her favorite Cadbury chocolates.

Yet the true animal of her affection? The tortoise. In her dining room, she has a collection of tiny turtle ceramics that she puts on display. “Wherever I go around the world, I always look at one I can bring home,” she says.
