Child allegedly sexually assaulted at knifepoint in Mt Druitt park

A man is accused of sexually assaulting a child at knifepoint at a park in Western Sydney.

The child was waiting at Mt Druitt Station about 1.15am August 15 when they were allegedly approached by a stranger, who took them to a nearby park.

There, the man allegedly threatened the child with a knife and sexually assaulted them before driving off in a white van, police said.

Sex Crimes Squad detectives arrested a 33-year-old man in Mt Druitt on Tuesday evening.

He was charged with aggravated sexual intercourse with a child between 10 and 14 and intentionally sexually touching a child between 10 and 16.

The man was refused police bail to appear before Mt Druitt Local Court on Wednesday.

Sex Crimes Squad Commander Detective Superintendent Jayne Doherty said the community should look out for anything or anyone acting suspicious.

“I want to continue to urge the community to stay vigilant and look out for children,” she said.

Doherty said support was available for victims.

“If you’re a victim of sexual violence, please reach out to police or support services,” she said.

“If you decide to report your assault to police, we will support and walk beside you on your journey.”
