For Charli xcx, everything is romantic. Especially Paris Couture Week. “I love to do romantic things. See the sights, eat good food, stay out late, run around the city,” she tells Vogue. “And, I mean, fashion week is always more glamorous I’d say…Parisian hotels tend to be far more chic than the backstage dressing rooms of venues, you know?”
The Balenciaga fall 2024 couture show is the latest activity on her Brat Girl Summer itinerary, kickstarted by her album, Brat. (Charli is manifesting Brat Girl Summer by “listening to my album and taking lots of pictures of myself,” and encourages anyone with the same BGS aspirations to “listen to my album and take lots of pictures of yourself.”)
While a couture show is a far cry from prepping for a set at Boiler Room, Charli still aims for a full night of sleep. “But that rarely happens when there are so many friends in town trying to party…” she admits. “I did have an amazing facial with Jasmina Vico and then went for dinner. Kinda low key you know?” The morning of the show, she keeps her routine simple: “I like to just have a coffee, put my face in ice, get ready and go,” she says. Plus, she’s got her glam team to help, with Louis Ghewy, Lauren Reynolds, and Chiara Ballisai on hand for hair, makeup, and nails.
For the show, Charli opted for a departure from her usual fashion show looks, switching up her go-to denim and furs for a black button-down halter shirtdress with vestigial sleeves, worn with suede pantaboots and, of course, her beloved impenetrable black sunglasses. “I love the flip on a shirt. Wearing it it feels like getting caught between getting dressed and undressed in a sexy way,” she says of her look. “I’ve always gravitated toward Balenciaga because I love Demna’s vision. He feels like he’s speaking his own language which is absolutely uncompromising, and to me, that’s what makes a brilliant artist.”
