cdsl milestone: CDSL becomes first depository to register 10 crore Demat accounts

Central Depository Services (India) Ltd on Wednesday announced the crossing of another milestone as more than 10 crore (100 million) demat accounts were registered with the platform.

CDSL is India’s leading and only listed depository, with an objective of providing convenient, dependable and secure depository services at affordable cost to all market participants.

The platform received its certificate of commencement of business from the market regulator in February 1999 and it facilitates holding and transacting securities in the electronic form and facilitates settlement of trades on stock exchanges.

CDSL maintains and services 10 crore-plus demat accounts of investors or beneficial owners (BOs) spread across India. These BOs are serviced by CDSL’s 580-plus depository participants

CDSL along with its subsidiaries also provides a host of services to the financial intermediaries and markets,

These include CDSL Ventures (CVL), which is a wholly owned subsidiary of CDSL and the first and largest KYC Registration Agency (KRA). CDSL Ventures conceptualised, designed and implemented the KRA system in association with AMFI for all mutual funds in 2008.

Currently, CVL has over 4.6 crore fully digitised KYC records which are uploaded and accessed by intermediaries spread across the country.
