Carlton fan favourite Matt Kennedy one of three Blues free to look for a trade

Carlton fan favourite Matt Kennedy has been told to look for a new club as the Blues continue their cleanout following their finals failure.

Kennedy is contracted for next year, but 7NEWS AFL reporter Mitch Cleary reports he is free to look for a new home despite playing every game this season in a variety of roles.

The 27-year-old was tactically subbed out before half-time of the elimination final loss against Brisbane in a controversial move.

He was spotted shattered at the back of the interchange bench when he was sacrificed to get Tom De Koning on the field with the Blues trailing 47-0.

Fans were fuming with the decision, and it might be the last time he wears the Blues jumper.

“He was told he is free to look elsewhere in 2025,” Cleary said.

“He had an honest conversation with Michael Voss last week, he sees himself as an inside midfielder, the Blues see him continuing half-forward role.”

Cleary added that Kennedy is one of three Blues told they can look around.

Versatile tall Lewis Young, who played nine games this year including the elimination final, is another free to look elsewhere despite having a contract until 2026.

Forward Matt Owies is without a deal to stay at Ikon Park and is gauging interest.

The potential departures come after the club officially delisted five players, including experienced Jack Martin, David Cuningham and Caleb Marchbank.

The Blues appear likely to land Giants veteran defender Nick Haynes as a free agent, while Port Adelaide star Dan Houston is also on their hit list.
