After a successful weekend for Canadian UFC fighters in Edmonton, the promotion has turned north of the border for main card replacement.
British Columbia’s Jamey-Lyn Horth will reportedly be replacing 12th-ranked women’s flyweight contender Tracey Cortez in her UFC Tampa main event bout against Miranda Maverick in December, according to Sportsnet’s Aaron Bronsteter.
The news was first reported by Marcel Dorff of Tapology.
Horth steps in for the Dec. 14 contest less than a week after picking up a split decision win against Ivana Petrovic at Rogers Place for UFC Fight Night in Edmonton. She was one of five Canadians to come out victorious in the promotion’s third-ever visit to the city.
With the win, Horth improved to 2-1 in the UFC and is now 7-1 overall in MMA.
Meanwhile, Maverick is riding a three-fight win streak and enters the contest with a 7-3 UFC record (14-5 MMA). Her latest victory came via unanimous decision against Dione Barbosa in July.
A win for either woman, especially Horth after stepping into the contest just one month before, could go a long way toward getting into the top 15 of the 125-pound division.
The new matchup will be part of a UFC Fight Night card at Amalie Arena that will be headlined by a ranked welterweight bout between No. 7 Ian Machado Garry and No. 9 Joaquin Buckley.
