Bydee Swimwear: Aussie bikini brand beloved by TikTokers and celebs moves into jewellery

It’s the Aussie bikini brand beloved by TikTokers, celebrities from Alessandra Ambrósio to Bella Hadid and the Best Picks team.

And now, not content with dominating the swimwear and resortwear market, the famous Aussie brand Bydee has delved into jewellery, launching the debut collection today (August 9).

Founder Dessy Hairis, 28 — who has been making and selling cossies since she was 17 — said she decided to launch jewellery after hearing constant feedback from her shoppers for it.

Having collected vintage jewellery for what feels like forever and styling our shoots with a lot of these vintage pieces, our babes were always asking how they could get their hands on these pieces to complete their Bydee looks,” Dessy told Best Picks.

It was an easy decision to launch jewellery for Bydee, and it has been an exciting process to bring these pieces to life.”

The resulting debut Bydee jewellery collection has been handcrafted with love and attention to detail.

Featuring earrings, necklaces and waist chains, each piece has been meticulously made using the best plating technology on the market, with 14k gold on a brass base.

Each bit of the jewellery is adorned with a unique blend of handpicked synthetic and natural stones, including Indian agate and carnelian, designed to perfectly complement your outfit — whether you’re wearing Bydee or not.

Highlights in the collection include the Casa Del Sol Charm Necklace ($179), the Copacabana Earrings in Indian agate ($89) and the stunning Sol Waist Chain ($99).

I also adore the Azela Earrings in Pearl ($99), as well as the Tropicalia Beaded Necklace ($89).

Even if you’ve not got a flight to Europe booked any time soon, these pieces will make you feel as though you’re in Greece or Italy in no time.

When I was growing up in the early 2000s, Ripcurl, Billabong, Quicksilver and Roxy were hailed as the brands to wear and everyone wanted to purchase their swimming costumes from Surf Dive ‘n’ Ski.

Now Aussies are blessed with hundreds of brand names in the beach space but few bikini business owners have worked harder — or longer — than Dessy Hairis, who has been making and selling cossies for more than a decade.

The now 28-year-old who grew up in Sydney was surrounded by a “super creative family” with a father who is an architect and a mother who loved to sew, so there was always a sewing machine nearby.

“After being unable to find swimwear that I wanted to wear I started making my own when I was about 17,” Dessy previously told Best Picks.

“I posted about this on Facebook (back in the day when it was cool to have 1000+ Facebook friends!) and I started selling bikinis on my school quad to girls who had placed orders, all through Facebook!”

But it was a European summer holiday in 2015 that led her to found the Bydee brand after seeing a range of beautiful beaded bikinis on the sand.

“I was always obsessed with little details and this inspired me to bring something different to the Australian market,” she said.

“I sold my Bydee creations across multiple Sydney markets from 2016 to 2019; I loved meeting customers face to face and learning all about what they were looking for in their swim pieces.

“It was the best form of market research and also allowed me to reinvest straight back into the brand. I am so grateful for my market days.”

Launching mainly with printed swimwear the brand now offers a resortwear category too so shoppers can pick up their beachside and barside outfit all in one place.

It has already developed the size range to stock XS through to XXL and expanded into the US market.

The foray into jewellery is just the latest move from a brand who now sells two bikinis every 60 seconds.
