Brownlow medallist Patrick Cripps melts hearts with playful tribute to ‘beautiful’ wife, Monique

Carlton champion Patrick Cripps was reflective and emotional — but still had time for a gag — after winning his second Brownlow Medal with a record number of votes on Monday night.

Cripps was dubbed “a humble champion” by Seven host Hamish McLachlan, and showed his class when he took to the podium to make his speech.

Naturally, the 29-year-old thanked his teammates and coaches, but it was his playful nod to his wife that melted hearts.

“Lastly, to my wife Mon,” he said

“You are looking beautiful tonight. I think it’s the best kit you ever had so far, so well done.”

As the crowd erupted with laughter, he quickly added: “Even though she threw me under the bus at the red carpet (and) told everyone I watch my (own) highlights.”

Cripps then continued and was full of love and sincerity.
