Bronny James’ draft an ‘abuse of power’ by dad LeBron: Ex-player

Former Orlando Magic player Steven Hunter claims Bronny James Jr.’s selection by the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2024 NBA Draft was a huge “abuse of power” by his father LeBron.

The Draft saw the Lakers pick Bronny, who now plays on the same roster as his legendary father. However, not everyone has favoured LeBron’s front office influence on the team and apparent nepotism.

One such person was Hunter, who played in the NBA between 2001 and 2010.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Hunter said Bronny’s Lakers spot was awarded rather than earned, stating LeBron and agent Rich Paul stole an opportunity from a college prospect who was a stronger player than Bronny.

“For those that don’t know .. Late second round picks don’t get guarantees (especially before summer league),” Hunter wrote, per Outkick. “Typically late second round picks don’t get 4 year guaranteed roster spot deals either.

“This wasn’t earned, I’m sorry … And it’s an egregious abuse of power from LBJ (LeBron James) & Rich Paul,” Hunter continued. “It’s a slap in the face to all of the kids out there who work their a**es off to get to the league. It’s sneaky hollywood s*** like this that turns a lot of people off about Lebron.

“This is just another example of what they be talking about right when you try to like ’em. This is why most people prefer MJ (Michael Jordan) or Kobe (Bryant) over him because you know at least MJ or Kobe gone be straight shooters … Trust me MJ could’ve gotten one of his sons in the league if he chose to abuse his power like that”

Hunter said Jordan’s spot was earned, not given, and the Chicago Bulls great would never give his son “a sense of entitlement,” which is what he feels “LeBron James just did with Bronny.”

Not taking anything away from Bronny nor am I upset at Bronny … Just know that this is a manipulation of our league and the integrity of what it truly takes to get there,” said Hunter.

Outkick reported Hunter has felt increasingly annoyed that NBA media has continually focused on the James family.
