After months of production, rumored delays and filming that’s seen crews field Formula 1 cars at grands prix in the UK and Hungary, we finally know when Brad Pitt’s Formula 1 movie is due to be released: July 2025. But while it’s got a theatrical release date set in stone, there’s still no name for the project.
The new racing movie will see Brad Pitt star alongside Damson Idris as an aging racer who’s called back to the Formula 1 paddock. The flick has Lewis Hamlton onboard as a producer, has involved input from F1 teams up and down the grid and has the backing of Formula 1 itself, which confirmed the release date this morning.
Now, we finally know that it’s going to be released in July 2025, with the film premiering on July 27 here in the U.S. and July 25 for international audiences. The film, which has been produced by Apple TV, will be distributed by Warner Bros and will debut in theaters before appearing on the streaming service at a later date. On its release, the still untitled F1 flick will also be available to watch on massive Imax screens around the world. As the Hollywood Reporter explained:
The movie will hit theaters in North America on June 27, 2025, and re-teams the filmmakers behind ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ including director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Internationally, the movie will begin rolling out on June 25.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the movie landed at Apple under a deal that assured the film would receive a substantial theatrical release, with a window of at least 30 days, if not longer. At the time of the deal, it was clear that a distribution partner would need to come on board for the film. Apple has done such partnerships in the recent past, most notably working with Paramount on the wide theatrical release of ‘Killers of the Flower Moon,’ and Sony on ‘Napoleon.’
The new film is being billed as one of the most realistic F1 movies of all time, and its pursuit of perfection is racking up a production cost that’s putting the likes of Avatar to shame.
Despite the costs mounting and a deadline set for its release, the film is yet to receive an official title. In it, Pitt stars as an ex-F1 racer who returns to the paddock to partner with Idris at APXGP, a fictional team that competes against stalwarts like Ferrari, Williams and McLaren. As well as credits including Pitt, Idris and Hamilton, the movie also features appearances from actors Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies and Sarah Niles. Its producers also include Chad Oman of Jerry Bruckheimer Films, and Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner for Plan B Entertainment.
With all those big names on board, the movie will hopefully have gotten to the bottom of its pit stop issues that emerged last year.
